David Bowie could create amazing vocoder-like effects, simply by singing through his cupped hands into the echoes from a room's corners and walls. Now you can include your own voice in the 'Bowie' vocoder+harmonizer, now in alpha2 dev.
Above is top-level structure of the phase-banked AV vocoder applet, with DSP processing arranged as parallel, multithreaded, dual-banked, quintuple FFT chains. Changes in vocoder settings alter the frame pointer in the video, by default set to display two hands, with one finger moving while tuning and filtering each vocoder band.
For improved quality, the vocoder's 20Hz~20kHz vocal range is expanded to 96kHz, then compressed back into the original range. As a result the app can use standard DSP pipeline algorithms while increasing vocoder performance and quality by an order of magnitude.
I will include any provided voice recordings in the app demo.
