Each sequencer channel has its own note filter panel. Pitch and velocity filters can thin dense trigger clusters, or restrict the range of notes that trigger a particular sequencer channel (for example, to implement keyboard splits).
The actual controls change depending on whether the channel is set to filter, clip, wrap, mirror, translate, or shape pitch and velocity data. The following picture shows a filter which has been selected to translate pitch output.
Only one set of filter options need be available for each channel, because channels can be daisy chained for multiple filters. For example, to clip note pitch outside a transformation range, set up the pitch transformation in one sequencer and mute its output. Then set another sequencer in MATRIX STEP mode, triggered by the first (also enable pitch modulation from the first sequencer). Notes still pass into the modulation matrix even if they are muted, so the second channel can complete the permutation: simply put a CLIP filter in the second channel, or any other filter you want. If it's helpful, the instrument also supports selective copy/paste, so you can copy settings of just the note filter from one channel to another.
Enables the note filter. When the note filters are turned off, all the panel controls except the ON button are hidden from view.
Selects whether operations are applied to notes arriving (from MIDI or the input matrix) or the output (sent to modulation matrix and output matrix).
When set to output, the operations affect the primary notes only, and not the chord notes.
Plo and Vlo defines the range bottom. Vhi and Phi the range top. Typically LO is set lower than HI, in which case notes outside the pitch and velocity range are filtered out. If LOW is more than HIGH, the reverse happens; notes inside the range are filtered, and notes outside the range are passed.
Like FILTER, but notes outside the range are clipped to min/max values.
All notes are wrapped to fit inside the defined range. If the lo wrap point is more than the high wrap point, the output is inverted. There are separate P and V wraps.
The single knob sets the mirror point. A list appears to select whether the mirror occurs above, below, or on both sides of the mirror point. If set to mirror on one side only, notes on the other side are passed unaffected. There are separate P and V mirrors.
The two input knobs set the range to transform. Notes within the range are transformed, and outside the range are passed unaffected. The two output knobs set the target range for the transformation. There are separate P and V transforms.
Notes are offset by the lo value, and scaled so that the input range fills the output range. For example, if Pin1=36, Pin2=48, Pout1=60, and Out2=96, then note 37 becomes note 60, and note 48 becomes note 96.
For the input range, it does not matter if LO is set more than HI. However if so, the output is inverted. The output is also inverted if the output range values are set backwards.
If both LO values are more than their respective HI values, the value is inverted twice, ending up the same.
Like transform, but the result is shaped by an exponential curve within the output range.
(Only in output mode) The step filter may optionally exclude particular pattern steps from being processed by the note filter. This permits, for example, every fourth note to be made louder.
When the note filter is in output mode, the "STEPFLT" button appears at the bottom of the note filter. If turned on, a notification message appears at the top the step filter, and it no longer filters notes from reaching the pattern. Instead, all notes bypass the step filter on their way into the pattern. After the pattern generates notes, the note filter then only processes the note if the step filter's current step is on.
